Running for Congress

By way of Tennviews I learned that my congressman David Davis (R-TN 1st) is announcing he will seek re-election. I will be opposing Rep. Davis as a write-in candidate, officially announced in the comments at Tennviews. My announcement is reproduced here:

I announce here in this comment that I am opposing Rep. Davis in this election as a write-in candidate. I have a residence in the district and live there sometimes. I will stand for pro-choice, our right to be atheists, agnostics, Buddhists, Mormons, and even dare I say it, Scientologists. I'm a loner, a slacker, a midnight toker, I play my music in the sun. Please vote for me if you live in the 1st district. Thank you.

Update: I feel like Stephen Colbert. Write-in votes don't count unless a form is filed in each county in the district. Being a slacker, that's too much trouble. You can still vote for me to make a statement to the establishment however. I will be grooming myself and getting the forms in order for an official run in 2010.

Update: Been working on some campaign slogans...

Fletch - the anti-Davis

Vote for fletch, a successful entrepeneur in the global economy, however he needs a government job with benefits and a pension to have any hope of retirement. -- perhaps a little wordy.

Vote for fletch, or al-Qaeda will blow up Gatlinburg. -- fear mongering perhaps, but it worked for the Republicans in 2004.

Fletch. True American, True Heterosexual -- now I don't like this one really. It implies that Davis is gay, and there's nothing wrong with being gay. It's really gay bashing. It's just pandering to the constituency.

I like Ike -- I know, my name is not Ike, but neither was Dwight's and it worked for him.

Might add some more later. Feel free to contribute in the comments.

Sorry that I'm in the wrong district!

You got my vote dude.

I'll try to work on some campaign slogans.

This is gonna be real fun...

fletch:

poopie..excellent suggestion!

DSK:

I'm partial to "Why the hell not?" but that didn't work out so well for Kinky Friedman in the end. *sigh*

It really is too bad about Davis and the gay community. Maybe it will become central to his platform.
